Permanent body art can be a wonderful practice of self-expression; however, over time, personal taste changes. At Think b4 You Ink, we are laser tattoo removal experts. When you decide that removal of your body art is best, we can assist you through the entire process. We provide services to our clients on a range of tattoos, including single colour and multi coloured tattoo removal. Today, we would like to share our guide to laser tattoo aftercare.
Whether it is a tattoo sleeve removal or colour tattoo removal, the steps taken after the treatment will be the same on each area of the body. The effectiveness can be significantly improved through the correct care of the treated skin, and even speed up the process of fading. It is crucial to avoid infection or other reactions to follow an aftercare plan.
To begin, during the first three days, be especially cautious. Wear loose and clean clothing, that is gentle on the skin to avoid scratching or friction. Woolly or fluffy clothing is a particular no-no, the fibres can catch on the area. A bandage or dressing can be worn too; it is best to keep it in place until advised otherwise.
After a few days and dressing and bandages are removed, it is incredibly important to keep the area as clean as possible. This can be done with clean, warm water and should be repeated regularly. Thorough cleaning and, if advised, the use of an antibacterial ointment on the skin keeps the area moisturised while it heals. Do not use any soap or fragranced products while cleaning as this can cause irritation. Shaving and the use of razors should be avoided at all costs.
Blisters and scabs are a likely part of the healing process. It is important not to pop or pick at your skin. Blisters should burst on their own – this is normal. Scabbing should also be left to fall off naturally. Avoiding any high pressure on the area or scratching the skin is advised. If you find that this part of the healing process brings discomfort, an ice pack or a calming ointment can be used.
Making sure you eat healthily and exercise can help keep the immune system strong. Drinking lots of water, reducing alcohol consumption and avoiding smoking are all beneficial to the healing process.
Finally, it is paramount to avoid exposing the treated area to the sun. Sun overexposure can cause damage to healthy skin let alone post-treated skin, your treatment area will be sensitive and prone to sun damage. Over the weeks after the treatment, we recommend keeping the area covered with clothing or applying a high SPF lotion, preferably factor 50 or more.
